SCOTTISH Tory headquarters were targeted last night by campaigners who wrote the words “blood on your hands” on the door of the office in red paint in protest against the party.

Activists with the left-wing organisation Make the Rich Pay targeted the Edinburgh offices of Douglas Ross’s party in the early hours of Monday morning.

A video posted by the Young Communist League shows hooded activists spray painting the slogan on the Northumberland Street base and then throwing objects through its ground-floor windows.

A Tory spokesperson has confirmed they were targeted and that an “act of vandalism has been reported to the police”.

The incident took place before Prime Minister Liz Truss performed a surprise U-turn on their policy to axe the top rate of income tax for the super-rich.

The campaigners said they targeted the Scottish Conservative offices in protest against the policy, which they said was an act of “class war”.

But the Chancellor has confirmed the Government is eyeing public spending cuts to the tune of £18 billion per year

A spokesperson for Make the Rich Pay said: “These tax cuts will exacerbate economic disparities across Britain; the working class will be forced to pay for the naked greed displayed in this forthcoming budget.

“As taxes decrease for the rich, the Truss government remain ideologically committed to neoliberal economics, and refuse to 'offer hand-outs'. This means families are expected to suffer a winter of fuel and food poverty, to pay for this tax cut.

“We will punish the parliamentary organs that allow Keith Anderson (the CEO of Scottish Power) and all profiteers to harvest our labour power, hoover up the value it creates and hold our living standards to ransom.

“The Conservatives are an extension of the ruling class, made up of names, faces and addresses. We will not hesitate to reply to their acts of class war."

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were made aware of damage to a property on Northumberland Street, Edinburgh, which is thought to have happened around 12.10am on Monday, October 3, 2022.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
