CAMPAIGNERS at an independence march and rally yesterday cheered calls for the movement to “go forward as one” and focus on inspiring messages to help persuade undecided voters.
Organisers All Under One Banner (AUOB) said around 3000 people had taken part in the event in Inverness. The march followed a route leaving from Fisherman’s Car Park before ending with a rally at Castle Heather Park.
Among those addressing the crowd was Wilma Bowie of InverYes, who was cheered when she spoke of the action which could be taken to help “give others the confidence to vote Yes”.
She said: “We all know the facts and reasons why Scotland would be better ruled by her own people and a government of our choosing – but not everybody does.
“Today I am standing here talking to all you wonderful like-minded people, but there is a significant percentage of undecided voters that we can all reach out to.
“To do this I truly believe that all pro-independence political parties, MSPs, MPs, councillors and us grassroots supporters should galvanise to go forward as one amalgamated independence movement.”
SNP MP Drew Hendry also addressed the rally, highlighting the cost of living crisis, saying: “We have got to say to people ... this is the time for Scotland to take charge of its own affairs, to make its own decisions for its own people, to look after people.”
