HOLLYWOOD actor Alan Cumming welcomed Nicola Sturgeon to the final performance of his Edinburgh Festival run last night.

The First Minister attended the performance of Burn - a dance-theatre show exploring the life of Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns - alongside the US ambassador to the UK Jane Hartley.

The play is a co-production between the Edinburgh International Festival, the National Theatre of Scotland, and the Joyce Theater in New York.

All three were pictured backstage celebrating what the Edinburgh International Festival called “a great example of USA-Scotland cultural collaborations!”

Cumming co-created the production with award-winning choreographer Stephen Hoggett, which also features the music of Scottish composer and Mercury-prize nominee Anna Meredith.

Following the performances at the Edinburgh International Festival the show will now tour Scotland, heading to Perth, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Inverness before concluding at the Joyce Theater in New York.

This weekend Cumming will lead the march at Perthshire Pride, where he will deliver the keynote speech in-front of an expected crowd of over 7000.
