AMERICAN actor Steve Carell inspired Irn Bru to change its name after he came up with a new one.

In a video clip, the US Office star can be seen trying the Scottish soft drink along with various other snacks and comparing them to American treats.

While he had never heard of it, he was told it was the "drink of Scotland" and that Scottish people "loved it ... and it's orange".

He then says: "So it's haggis soda?"

Irn Bru shared the clip on their social media pages and wrote that they were "tempted to change our name to Haggis Soda for a day".

Their Twitter page temporarily showed the name Haggis Soda after the interview went viral.

Despite the unusual name suggestion, Anchorman star Steve loved Irn-Bru and even began discussing its tasting notes.

He said: "Oh, I like that a lot actually. Yeah, I think that's delicious.

"I like how it lingers on the tongue.

"I can't believe I'm talking about it like I'm a wine connoisseur."
