A DARING duo are taking on a marathon golf challenge in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Bobby McLatchie and Steven Dodds have set themselves the ambitious target of completing four full rounds of golf, or 72 holes, in a single day.

All in, the challenge is usually the equivalent to around 26 miles of walking, and more than 40,000 steps.

The pair will take on the challenge at Ballochmyle Golf Club, where both are members, on Monday, July 18.

The idea was born out of Bobby and Steven reading new statistics reporting that every day, there are around 140 new prostate cancer cases in the UK.

Bobby has been a keen golfer for a number of years, while Steven is slightly newer to the sport.

Regardless, the pair are looking forward to taking on this challenge for this great cause.

Bobby said: “Both of us have lost people to various forms of this horrible disease. I’m a dad to two kids as well as a husband, son, an uncle and a brother. Steven is a son, brother, boyfriend and an uncle.

“Think about all the males who are in your life that can be affected by this. We reckon that we are all worth saving.

“We are definitely looking forward to doing it but there is also a quiet sense of dread as it’s the equivalent to a 26-mile marathon, 40,000 steps, all whilst pushing a trolley or carrying a set of clubs. Factor in our terrible skill level it’ll be more like 40 miles.

“We’ve planned it for all day, hoping to start around 6am and go for a 3 hour 30 minute round which we think will get progressively slower by the time fatigue sets in.

“My wife has already began to plan a raffle and a live stream draw with prizes with all the proceeds going to charity.

“I’ve previously ran a half marathon for charity but we had always wanted to do something bigger for charity and make a real impact.”
