FORMER Rangers assistant Michael Beale is considering an approach for Kevin Thomson as he assembles his backroom staff at Queens Park Rangers, according to reports.

Beale served as Steven Gerrard's No.2 at Ibrox before joining the Liverpool great at Aston Villa in November last year, and on Wednesday was handed his first management role at Loftus Road.

The highly-regarded 41-year-old is identifying coaches to join him at the English Championship outfit and the Daily Record report that Kevin Thomson is being considered for a role.

Thomson steered Kelty Hearts to the League Two title last season in his first campaign in the dugout but left the club earlier this week in pursuit of full-time football.

The former Rangers, Hibernian and Middlesbrough midfielder was interviewed for the vacancy at Raith Rovers before Ian Murray was appointed and was also linked with the Dunfermline job before the League One club opted for James McPake.
