SCOTRAIL has confirmed it will be providing extra night-time services after Scotland’s World Cup play-off game on Wednesday following fears over fans struggling to get home due to timetable cuts.

With a shortage of drivers and a pay dispute leading to them ruling out rest-day working, bosses decided to slash hundreds of services to provide more “certainty” and avoid further cancellations.

ScotRail moved to its temporary timetable last week, cancelling 700 services and axing a large number of late-night services.

While the operator said there will be additional services between Glasgow and Mount Florida, the station nearest the national stadium, it was thought that final services to most of Scotland’s major cities will leave before the Ukraine game even kicks off.

But on Monday evening the train provider said they’d been “working hard” to provide more late services to other major towns and cities and had been able to do so.
