A MAN has been arrested for drug driving after police clocked him “flying past” them at more than 140mph on the M80.

The maximum speed limit on the stretch of road between Glasgow and Stirling is 70mph.

Glasgow Road Police spotted the vehicle whilst sitting in an unmarked car and have described the offence as “completely unacceptable.”

The black VW Golf GTI was observed around 9.20pm and officers stopped the car to arrest a 31-year-old man in connection with several offences including drug driving.

Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit’s Sergeant Adnan Alam said: “Driving at dangerously high speeds shows a complete disregard for the safety of both the occupants of their vehicle and other road users.

“Dangerous and careless driving are both key factors in fatal and serious injury collisions on the roads and our enforcement focuses on tackling dangerous driving and speeding.”

Sergeant Alam confirmed a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

He added: “We all have a responsibility to drive safely every time we take to the roads and with consideration for all other road users.

“We urge motorists to drive to the conditions and comply with all road signage.”
