Whilst the ship has sailed on the Government telling us that a "staycation" is the only way we can get away this summer, there is still a lot to be said for a coastal holiday in Scotland.

In a list of the UK's best seaside hotels, The Times have flagged three Scottish locations that they feel are worth a visit.

The first of the three is 57 Nord, a boutique self-catering accommodation snuggled in Ardelve, a village in the Highlands.

The accommodation is described as "a boutique hideaway in the wildland of the north" and boasts beautifully simplistic houses with minimalist kitchens and bedrooms.

The biggest selling point of this accommodation is the panoramic views of Loch Alsh, but it does indeed come at a price, with their cheapest three-night stay starting at £1185.

Next on The Times' list of must-visit seaside locations is The Colonsay Hotel located on the Isle of Colonsay.

The hotel, which was originally built in 1750 as gathering point for locals, is now a scenic gem with a cosy and homely atmosphere.

They offer gastro-pub style food, bicycles to get around the island, and a "Colonsay breakfast" included in the room fee for all guests.

During your time on the island, which has a tiny population of 124 people, you can partake in a range of activities including wildlife watching, paddle boarding, star gazing, and fly fishing.

Lastly, we have The Ship Inn nestled away in the beautiful seaside town of Elie.

The inn is a popular destination not just for an overnight stay, but also for dining as it has a signature Scottish menu featuring local dishes such as their famous fish and chips and Fife beer burgers.

The seaside town is also full of family-friendly things to do during the day, from swimming at Elie beach to visiting Ardross Castle, making for a great weekend away.
