Work begins today to transform Inverness Castle into a ‘world class’ visitor attraction.

Set to open to the public in 2025, the £30 million redevelopment will see the former court transformed into a tourist hotspot aiming to provide a huge boost to the local economy.

The work will include a new universally accessible rooftop viewing area in the South Tower and a café.

The Castlehill grounds will also be transformed to make the gardens a visitor attraction in their own right.

The Inverness Castle project is part of the Inverness and Highland City Region deal, a joint initiative supported by both the Scottish and UK Governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Director of Inverness Castle Project Fiona Hampton said: “We’re thrilled that work is beginning on site and we look forward to sharing updates on how the work is progressing over the next two and a half years.”
