IRVINE Welsh has issued a scathing response to the Tories for using an iconic Trainspotting poster to promote an anti-SNP message.

The author has come out with a fierce reaction on Twitter to the Tories using the “Choose life” poster that was rewritten to read: “Choose another future. Choose life without the SNP”.

Some of the lines in the graphic included slogans like “Choose blaming the TOAAARIES” and “choose a hard border with your neighbours”.

However, Welsh didn’t take kindly to the use of the famous Trainspotting imagery.

He wrote: "Get f***** you c****"

The writer has been a long-time critic of the Conservatives and has left no room for doubt on his feelings with his latest comments.

When asked by The National for his thoughts on the Tories' use of the poster, he said: "c**** mate".

Responding to the Conservative's election campaign poster, SNP MSP Elena Whitham wrote: "Choose to ignore the underlying message of Trainspotting of a generation kicked to the kerb by Thatcherism dealing with endemic poverty."
