He was spotted on Channel Street in Galashiels by local councillor Euan Jardine and after interrogation he revealed the reason for his visit to the town.

The show, which is being made by Scottish production company Tern Television, has been commissioned by BBC Scotland.

It follows Compston and his TV presenter pal Phil MacHugh on an unforgettable trip across the country to find out how the nation is being shaped by its people and landscape.

Speaking about the show, Compston said: "I've travelled all over the country for work and leisure – but this is the first time I'll be meeting real modern Scots on camera, sharing their thoughts and passions.
