A SCOTTISH cafe has put out an urgent advert for new staff – but suggested that people who wear masks, test for Covid-19 or read the Guardian need not apply.

Cafe 52 in Aberdeen has put a post on job-listing site Indeed looking to fill four positions “urgently”.

Postings for job opportunities at the cafe also appeared on its Facebook in May, July, August, September and October of last year.

The newest, which appeared online on Thursday, reads: “Cafe 52 is 27 years old this year and we would like REAL people to join our superb, dedicated, hard working team.

“Cafe 52 is THE most honest, upfront, no bullsxit [sic] restaurant in Aberdeen serving high quality innovative dishes celebrating the seasons. Much of the produce is home grown and the owners Mum, Mrs B [sic] serves up the puddings which are wonderful.

“The owner cannot stand preciousness, virtue signalling, mask wearing, Guardian readers, liars, lazy basxards and self testers.”

“Self testers” appears to refer to people who use at-home lateral flow devices to test for Covid-19, as the Government recommends.

The advert adds: “Hospitality is a wonderful industry but only when staff pull together and leave their ego's [sic] in their lockers.”

The jobs pay £9-£10 per hour, with full-time and part-time roles available. The posting says “discounted or free food”, a flexible schedule and tips are also part of the package.

The posting, which is for four positions and says staff are needed “urgently”, is advertised under the title: “MASKLESS, NON VIRTUE SIGNALING WAITER/ESS.”

Cafe 52’s Facebook page has also shared several posts with a similar theme, namely anti-Covid safety messaging.

One post, from December 2021, quotes “Steve Bothwell the restaurant's proprietor” as saying: “We refuse point blank to be bullshited [sic] by a bunch of lying cxnts who have made life hell for so many people. We don't dictate to our customers and we don't plaster the walls with brainwashing propaganda.”

Another, from November, calls on people to “unite against a segregated society in Scotland”.

Hitting out apparently at vaccine passports, it goes on to say the Scottish Government “are considering banning those who chose not to be experimented on from restaurants, cafes, and bars”.

A third, from last summer, claims the “Cafe 52 variant spreads faster than the Indian variant, the moon landing variant, and the bullshit variant combined”.

After Cafe 52 was approached for comment, the job listing on Indeed was altered. The firm has not yet otherwise responded.
