The National:

SCOTTISH Tory leader Douglas Ross has been roundly mocked after he posted an image canvassing for votes.

The Moray MP was down in Perth ahead of the council elections in May, helping to promote some of his party's candidates there.

But the fact that the Prime Minister is also in Scotland didn't go unnoticed.

“Did you find Boris?” Scots comic Janey Godley quipped.

“Not meeting your boss then?” another user joked.

The Prime Minister was visiting Scotland on Monday, but did not meet his party leader north of the Border. That may have had something to do with Ross having called for him to step down.

Others pointed out a lack of diversity in the image, which was dominated by white males.

“They must not have women in Perth,” the SNP’s Rosa Zambonini wrote.

To be fair, there seems to be one woman in the picture, tucked away at the back.

“The lack of diversity with the people canvassing for Andy and Calum are quite telling, Douglas ‘4-jobs’ Ross,” Lorraine Bell wrote.

She was referring to Andy Chan and Calum Milne, who will both be running in the Perth City South ward.

Responding to Bell’s comment, MSP Murdo Fraser said: “Two members of Perth’s BAME community right there. Are you a racist who has a problem with that?”

“How does pointing out there is a LACK of diversity make me a racist? Where are the women canvassing with you?” Bell responded, only for the Tory MSP to declare that she “protests too much”.

Elsewhere, another user responded to Ross’s tweet: “Have you found the Moray Rambler yet? (Tip: It's not in Perthshire.)”

They were referring to a car-crash grilling which the Scots Tory leader tried to give a TSB employee at a Westminster committee last week.

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s unmissable cringe.
