ANOTHER 16 people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, according to the latest daily data.

A further 7258 positive cases of the virus were also recorded on January 28, a fall of more than 1000 from the day before.

The new deaths, among people who first tested positive for coronavirus in the previous 28 days, bring the total toll under this measure to 10,291.

A total of 1302 people were in hospital on Thursday with recently confirmed Covid-19, a decrease of 17 on the day before.

Of those patients, 32 were in intensive care, a rise of two.

In terms of Scotland's vaccine effort, 4,409,367 people have now received their first dose of a Covid jag and 4,119,889 have received their second dose.

A total of 3,279,961 people have received a third dose or booster.
