POLICE have appealed for information after a "mindless act of destruction" saw learning resources at a Scots primary school set on fire.

The Forth Valley Police Division said that Borestone Primary School in south Stirling was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning.

Three people reportedly entered the primary 1 garden at the rear of the school and forced open the shed.

They removed the items within including wooden stools, stairs and rubber bricks and set them on fire in what officers called a "mindless act of destruction".

The cost of the damage is estimated at around £1000, and the pupils have been left with no items to aid their outdoor learning.

Police said: "Due to this the Primary 1s who should have been out enjoying the sunshine today have nothing to aid their outdoor learning and play.

"We can all appreciate how difficult this will have been for the children and staff to come into this mess and it will some time before they can get new resources.
