FANS of the hit series Outlander have welcomed the release of the official teaser trailer for the show’s sixth season.

The eagerly anticipated series is due to premiere on March 6, 2022, following a more than two year break since the fifth season was first broadcast. Fans of the show have dubbed the long wait “droughtlander”.

But the drought is nearly over, with production company Starz releasing an extended trailer for the sixth series on Wednesday.

Writing on Twitter, Outlander’s official account shared the trailer for the series.

In the two-minute teaser, star Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in the show, is faced with a choice as the American Revolutionary War dawns.

“If only they knew what was coming”, his co-star Caitríona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser in the hit show, says.

Responding to the trailer, Heughan wrote on Twitter: “Are you EVEN READY for this?!?!! Preparing myself. So excited!”

Filming of the sixth season was hit by the Covid pandemic, meaning it will run for just eight episodes. However, the opening show will be a 90-minute feature length special.

A shorter teaser of the series was released late last year.

Production of a seventh series, which will run for sixteen episodes, is due to begin this year.
