ANOTHER 21 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in Scotland, according to the latest daily data.

A further 7833 new positive cases of the virus were also recorded on January 15 as the Scottish Government has changed the way it reports cases to include both PCR and first lateral flow test results.

The 21 new deaths - among people who died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus - beings the total toll under the daily measure to 10,059.

On January 13, the Scottish Government began including positive tests recorded through an LFD (lateral flow device) test along with the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test results.

The total number of PCR results in the figures for Saturday is 4469.

Across Scotland's hospitals on Friday there were 1540 patients with recently confirmed Covid-19, a decrease of four on the day before.

Of these people, 46 were in intensive care, also down four.

In terms of the vaccination effort, 4,397,912 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 4,064,533 have received their second dose and 3,184,700 have received a third dose or booster.
