A FURTHER 26 deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19 have been recorded, according to the latest daily data.

The new deaths - of people who died within 28 days of testing positive - bring the total under the daily measure to 9931.

Another 12,602 cases of the virus were also recorded with a positivity rate of 25.1% of the 57,907 new tests for coronavirus that reported results.

The grim milestone of one million Covid cases was passed on January 6 and the latest results bring the total number of positive results recorded in Scotland to 1,037,665.

Public Health Scotland advised that there continues to be a "large volumes of tests being processed by labs" which, along with the new year holiday weekend, is resulting in delays to results being reported. The situation is being monitored by the public health body.

The latest figures show that there were 1362 people in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, an increase of 39 on the day before.

A total of 48 people were in intensive care, no change on the previous day.

In terms of Scotland's vaccination effort, 4,390,076 people have received their first dose of a Covid vaccination, 4,041,550 have received their second dose.

Some 3,082,231 have received a third dose or "booster".
