SCOTTISH singer Iona Fyfe has taken part in a reading of a Scots version of Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The Nicht Afore Christmas is published by Tippermuir Books and based on the original Christmas poem, A Visit from St Nicholas, by Clement Clarke Moore.

It was translated into Scots by Irene McFarlane and illustrated by Rosemary Cunningham.

The blurb reads: "Faither Yuletide is on his annual journey round the world and has just arrived over Scotland. One dad is in for a big surprise!"

The book comes with a glossary of Scots terms and was shortlisted for Scots Bairns Book o the Year 2021

The publisher says: "The words used in this poem come from all over Scotland – some used day-to-day, and some more unusual. We hope you can learn a bit more about Scots from reading the poem, even if you use the language all the time."
