NINE more people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, new daily figures reveal.

A further 5242 cases have also been recorded, with a positivity rate of 14.9%. This is down from 6734 on Monday, though the figure may be artificially low “due to larger volumes of tests being processed by labs”, Public Health Scotland says.

The deaths, among people who first tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measure to 9790.

Some 515 people were in hospital on Monday with recently confirmed Covid-19, down by one.

Of those patients, 37 were in intensive care, also down by one.

A total of 4,373,917 people have received their first dose of a vaccination, 3,997,192 have received their second dose, and 2,630,615 have received a third dose or booster.

Addressing the testing issues, the Government stated: “Public Health Scotland note there continues to be an impact on turnaround times between specimens being taken and results reported, due to larger volumes of tests being processed by labs.”

The results were announced ahead of Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid update to Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.
