A FURTHER 6734 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data.

The new positive results for the virus had a test positivity of 15.2%.

While daily cases numbers had been declining in recent days, 6786 new cases were recorded on Wednesday, December 15.

The all-time high for daily cases in Scotland came on September 2 when 7526 cases were reported, according to Public Health Scotland.

There were 36 new cases of the Omicron variant reported on Monday, bringing the total confirmed cases in Scotland to 1111 which are determined through whole genome sequencing.

No new deaths of people who have tested positive for coronavirus were reported in Monday's figures.

It means the total toll under the daily measure - of people who died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus - remains at 9781.

There were 516 people in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, an increase of 12 on the day before.

Of these patients, 38 were in intensive care, no change.

A total of 4,372,129 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 3,993,642 have received their second dose, and 2,561,480 have received a third dose or booster.
