A UNIVERSITY of Dundee graduate has been crowned Portrait Artist of the Year in a TV show.

The Sky Arts show challenges artists to paint celebrity sitters. Calum Stevenson, 23, from Bonnybridge, had produced stunning portraits of actress Kelly Macdonald and musician Nick Mason as he passed through the show’s rounds.

He held off stiff competition to take the title with a painting of entertainer Barry Humphries. His prize was a £10,000 commission to paint violinist Nicola Benedetti, which will go on show at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

Stevenson graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design with a Fine Art degree in 2019 before undertaking a Masters degree at Glasgow School of Art.
