FERRY services on Scotland’s west coast have been cancelled after staff were forced into self-isolation by the pandemic.

Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) made the announcement, which affects multiple services, on Saturday morning.

There has been a further crossing suspended “until further notice” due to a technical issue.

One service which has been cancelled is the Tarbet to Lochranza ferry, which connects Kintyre with the north of Arran.

CalMac’s service info Twitter feed said: “As a result of crew members requiring to self-isolate and await the results of Covid tests this service has been cancelled.

“We are currently working to source replacement crew and an update regarding tomorrow’s sailing will be provided later today.”

The Tarbert to Portavadie service, which crosses Loch Fyne to connect Kintyre and the Cowal peninsula, has also been hit by the same issue.

CalMac said that it is “currently working to source replacement crew and an update will be provided at approximately 14:30”.

In the Outer Hebrides, the Eriskay to Ardmhor crossing, which connects Barra to the Uists, hit a technical issue and was forced to turn back. CalMac said the service is now “suspended until further notice”, adding: “Further updates will be provided once available.”

The Berneray to Leverburgh crossing, which connects North Uist to Lewis and Harris, has been cancelled this morning due to adverse weather conditions, but is expected to be back running on Saturday afternoon.
