A TOP Tory spin doctor reportedly made a thank you speech and handed out awards at the Downing Street Christmas party alleged to have taken place on December 18.

Boris Johnson's most senior communications adviser, Jack Doyle, is understood to have addressed up to 50 people who attended the party, according to ITV News.

The December 18 party is now the subject of an internal investigation and at the time Doyle was deputy director of communications.

While senior figures are understood to thank staff at the end of every week in routine speeches, Doyle is also said to have handed out joke awards to members of the communication in the form of paper certificates.

A number of alleged parties are said to have taken place in Downing Street over the festive period last year while the rest of the UK was under lockdown restrictions and unable to see friends and family while large gatherings were banned and fines were handed out to members of the public.

Downing Street and the Prime Minister consistently denied the parties took place until ITV released a video of former press secretary Allegra Stratton and other Downing Street aides, joking about them on December 22, 2020.

The Metropolitan Police has said that it is not opening an investigation into the parties "at this time" as they said it is "policy not to investigate retrospective breaches”.

Johnson said he was "furious" about the video of Stratton and tasked Cabinet Secretary Simon Case with undertaking an internal investigation.

The SNP have demanded an independent investigation into the Prime Minister himself as the current one does not go far enough.
