ANOTHER 12 people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, new daily figures reveal.

A further 3060 cases have also been recorded, with a positivity rate of 9.2%. However, Public Health Scotland (PHS) says that figure is inflated due to a processing backlog.

The new statistics show 28 new cases of the Omicron variant have been identified, taking the total in Scotland to 99.

The deaths, among people who first tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measure to 9661.

Some 576 people were in hospital on Monday with recently confirmed Covid-19.

Of those patients, 38 were in intensive care.

A total of 4,355,063 people have received their first dose of a vaccination, 3,962,203 have received their second dose, and 1,922,604 have received a third dose or booster.

Explaining the processing backlog, PHS said: “The backlog of tests from UK Government pillar 2 continues to be processed contributing to higher than expected figures today.”

Officials say they expect the backlog will be cleared on Tuesday and future data will “return to a lower level”.
