AN anti-cancel culture conference set to feature the likes of Nigel Farage has been cancelled.

Billed as a "celebration of the intellectual rebellion against the status quo", Counter Conference was due to take place in London at The O2's Indigo venue which can hold almost 3000 people.

The event, which was due to take place on Wednesday, December 8, was set to feature the former Ukip leader, former London mayoral candidate and actor Laurence Fox as well some prominent Donald Trump supporters including former US housing secretary Ben Carson and former aide Jason Miller.

However, organisers have cancelled the event as The Spectator reported that fewer than 400 tickets were sold.

It was being organised by Miller's Twitter alternative GETTR, which advertises itself as being "founded on the principles of free speech, independent thought and rejecting political censorship and 'cancel culture'".

GETTR blamed travel restrictions as a result of the spread of coronavirus for the cancellation, with a spokesperson saying they would make scheduling travel to the conference for many of the speakers "impossible".

The organisers also blamed slow ticket sales on the fact that the O2 requires vaccine or Covid-19 test certificates to be shown on entry to its venues.

They said in a statement: "Due to the UK’s newly-mandated travel restrictions, we regret to announce that the Counter Conference event that was to be held on the 8th December at Indigo at The O2 has been cancelled.”

A GETTR spokesperson told The Spectator: "They can’t stop Counter Conference, they can only hope to slow us down. But fear not, we’ll be back this spring bigger and better than ever!"

Fox added: "We will not give up on our initiatives to take back our Western birthrights and the Counter Conference will be held in the coming months bigger than ever."
