A VAN driver crossing the Queensferry Crossing came “inches from disaster” when a low-flying drone struck the side of his vehicle.

Driver Tomas Balcar told STV that he had been travelling north over the bridge at about 60mph when he saw the drone flying around three metres above the centre of the crossing.

He told the broadcaster that he then heard a noise when its propeller hit the side of his van.

“Imagine I was doing 60mph in the outside lane and the drone was doing also some speed towards me.

“It was basically flew inches from disaster as there was heavy traffic at that time.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We received report of a drone having struck a van on the Queensferry Crossing around 12.10pm on Monday, November 15, 2021.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
