SCOTLAND’S Covid vaccination roll-out is currently leading the UK across all three doses, UK Government data shows.

The news comes after the four home nations began administering third “booster” jags to maintain protection among the more vulnerable in society.

The latest available data from the UK Government shows that more than 100 million doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered in total.

Of these, 50,455,318 were first doses, 45,942,003 were second doses, and 11,452,654 were booster shots.

In terms of the percentage of the population which has been jagged, Scotland leads across all doses.

The Government data shows that 90.4% of eligible Scots been given their first jag. This compares to 83.9% in Northern Ireland, 87.5% in England, and 89.2% in Wales.

In Scotland, 82% of the eligible population has received their second shot. This compares to 78.4% in Northern Ireland, 79.6% in England, and 81.8% in Wales.

Finally, Scotland also leads in terms of booster doses handed out. The data shows that 22.7% of the population has been given a third jag. This compares to 11.3% in Northern Ireland, 19.8% in England, and 22% in Wales.

Scotland’s total has overtaken Wales’s in the last week. On October 24, when the Scottish Tories claimed the “SNP are failing to deliver the vaccine booster programme quickly enough”, it was already ahead of both England and Northern Ireland.

On October 25, when the Scottish Tories claimed the SNP were “dithering” on the roll-out, Scotland’s first and second dose rate exceeded all of the other UK nations.

The news comes after vaccine firm Valneva said it had not ruled out taking legal action against the UK Government over disparaging comments made by Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
