SCOTLAND has recorded another 26 Covid-19 deaths and more than 3000 new cases as fresh spike in cases continues.

The daily number of infections had been stable at around the 2000 mark for several days, but on Wednesday it shot up to almost 4000.

Thursday’s figure was 3340, with a positivity rate of 8.2% – down from 9.1%.

The deaths, among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measure to 9358.

Some 768 people were in hospital on with recently confirmed Covid-19, the new daily figures show – a decrease of 10 in 24 hours.

Of those patients, 60 were in intensive care, down by one.

A total of 4,326,392 people have received their first dose of a vaccination and 3,921,971 have received their second.
