CLIMATE campaigners gathered to raise awareness of the links between war and environmental crisis during the fourth day of COP26.

Extinction Rebellion protesters took to the streets outside the Home Office building in Cessnock, with Brand Street remaining closed for some time as they marched between Whitefield Road and Govan Road towards BAE Systems.

Douglas Renshaw of Extinction Rebellion Glasgow said the UK Government has allowed spending “on arms to outstrip spending on climate solutions”.

“They've created a brutal world where many face conflict over ravaged resources. Their gross negligence is allowing climate chaos to create more war,” he added.

“Climate chaos will increase the risk of conflict, social instability and fighting over resources. Climate chaos creates conflict while arms companies and their shareholders benefit.”
