TEENAGE climate activist Greta Thunberg has confirmed that she will be in Glasgow during the COP26 climate summit and has invited Glasgow workers who plan on striking to join her in a protest march through the city.
The Swedish environmental activist confirmed on Twitter on Sunday that she is set to be in Glasgow over the course of the summit period and wrote on Twitter that she would take part in the Climate Strike march from Kelvingrove Park to George Square.
She previously stated in September that she ‘may not attend’ and her decision to visit the city would be based on whether the event was “safe and democratic”, emphasising that she would ‘hopefully attend’ if delegates were vaccinated.

On Monday, she wrote on Twitter: “On Friday Nov 5 I’ll join the climate strike in Glasgow – during #COP26 Climate justice also means social justice and that we leave no one behind.
“So we invite everyone, especially the workers striking in Glasgow, to join us. See you there!”
She previously told BBC Scotland that she does not see the country as a world leader on climate change.
She said: “I mean, there are some countries that do a bit more than certain others, but then if we look at it from a broader perspective then I think we can safely say there are no countries - at least in the global north - that are even doing close to what would be needed.”
Rail workers in the RMT union are set to strike throughout the two-week conference.
The Scottish Government has said it will focus on “making alternative plans for rail operations during Cop26” if a pay offer is not accepted by Wednesday, however the rail union has already rejected that offer.
Refuse and recycling workers from more than half of Scotland’s local authorities will also be out on strike from November 8 to 12, along with school cleaners, janitors and catering staff.
Strikes are currently scheduled to take place in the Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyle and Bute, Clackmannanshire, Dundee City, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow City, Moray, North Lanarkshire, Orkney, South Ayrshire, Stirling and West Lothian council areas.
The Climate Strike has been organised by Fridays for Future Scotland, which was founded by young people inspired by Thunberg’s activism.
