The National:

AFTER the misery Brexit has inflicted on millions of people across the UK - whether that’s having their livelihoods decimated or having faced shortages of food and fuel - it seems the Tory government has decided against having a festival to celebrate it.

Instead, the planned “Festival of Brexit” will be rebranded - so that we all forget the reckless EU exit overseen by Boris Johnson’s feckless government.

Instead, in a name which has clearly been focus-grouped to oblivion, the Festival of Brexit will be called “Unboxed: Creativity in the UK”.

Catchy, and sure to be £120 million well spent.

At least it’s got the Brexiteers chittering.

Tory MP Craig Mackinlay hit out at the “meaningless” new name, which he said has replaced “what could have been a great celebration of global Britain post-Brexit”.

But wait, it’s not meaningless, the surely well-paid Unboxed: Creativity in the UK’s creative director Martin Green tells us.

The Festival of Brexit (just don’t call it that) will be “an unprecedented and timely opportunity for people to come together across the UK and beyond and take part in awe-inspiring projects that speak to who we are and explore the ideas that will define our futures”.

So meaningful. Bring on March 2022.
