THE COP26 climate summit is coming to Glasgow in a matter of weeks with tens of thousands of delegates from around the world set to descend on Scotland's biggest city.

The site for the event will be the Scottish Event Campus, located on the banks of the Clyde but several road closures are expected to cause delays and congestion around large parts of the city.

COP26 will be an opportunity for world leaders to discuss how to tackle global climate change with goals set out under the Paris Climate Accord agreed in 2015.

The summit will take place from Sunday, October 31 to Friday, November 12 with travel disruption expected until at least November 14.

A new heat map of potential delays for cars, buses and trains has been released by the Get Ready Glasgow page that provides information about city operations during large scale events.

The travel heat maps for individual days of the event show significant potential disruption to areas around the SEC and Glasgow city centre due to road closures for the event.

Disruption and delays are likely along the M8 motorway, which passes the SEC, as well as at Glasgow's train and bus stations which are likely to be busier than usual.

The National:

Unlike other major events Glasgow has hosted in the past, COP26 will bring its "own unique challenges to our travel network" according to Get Ready Glasgow which highlighted the "scale and complexity of the event" which is bringing many world leaders to the city.

Work is currently being done to see how the increased demands of Glasgow's travel network will be affected and planners are developing "local traffic management plans" in areas directly affected by road closures.

Businesses and residents directly affected by road closures will receive "specific, direct communications forewarning them of the likely impact" at a time closer to the event.
