NICOLA Sturgeon is set to deliver a Ted Talk on the climate crisis as Glasgow prepares to host world leaders at COP26.

The First Minister will take to the stage alongside experts and political chiefs at the special speaking event in Edinburgh today.

This is everything you need to know.

What will Sturgeon talk about?

She will discuss the role of smaller countries in climate action at the conference in Edinburgh.

Sturgeon’s talk will be part of Ted’s Countdown Summit series, which will see a range of different speakers visit the Scottish capital to share their blueprint for a net zero future from October 12 to 15.

Ahead of the event, she said: “We are now just three weeks away from what will be one of the most important global gatherings of the 21st century.

“Cop26 is our best and possibly last chance to achieve what is required to deliver the goals of the Paris Agreement and safeguard our planet.

“The world must move from promises to action, and mobilise the ambition, finance, resources and joint working needed to deliver on the Paris Agreement goals. Scotland will play its full part in meeting those goals.

“Ahead of Cop26, Scotland is delivering on our promise to end our contribution to climate change within a generation, putting a just transition and wellbeing at the centre whilst taking the big and difficult decisions that will create a net zero, climate-resilient and fairer future.”

When does it start?

The SNP leader will deliver her talk during Session 2 of the Ted Talk event, which is called “Imagining”.

That session begins at 11.15am on Wednesday October 13 and is due to finish at 1pm.

Other speakers include climate author Solomon Goldstein-Rose and Danish climate minister Dan Jorgensen.

Can I watch it?

The First Minister’s speech is expected to be available via the Ted Talk website, which has a dedicated section for the Countdown Summit. Clips of Sturgeon's speech are expected to be uploaded as it is delivered.

You can also follow coverage and reaction on The National’s website.

Has Sturgeon done anything like this before?

The First Minister delivered a high-profile Ted Talk in July 2019.

It was about why government should prioritise wellbeing and has been viewed more than 100,000 times on YouTube.

What’s next for the FM?

Sturgeon will also give a talk to the Arctic Circle Assembly, the largest annual international gathering on the Arctic, in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Thursday.

She will discuss Scotland’s links with the Arctic nations and how all countries must work together to tackle the climate emergency.

Other speakers at the event will include the prime minister of Iceland, the Danish minister for foreign affairs and the EU commissioner for environment, oceans and fisheries.
