GET well soon messages are being sent to an Ayrshire SNP MP who is recovering in hospital after Covid-19 led to him becoming seriously ill.
Allan Dorans, the MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock, was taken to hospital earlier this week while suffering “serious effects” from coronavirus.
The 66-year-old has thanked the NHS staff at the University Hospital in Ayr, who he said have done an “exceptional job” of taking care of him.

Former councillor Dorans, who has been an MP since the 2019 General Election, told the Daily Record: "I'd like to thank everyone for their warm wishes since I was admitted to hospital, and as I continue to recover from the serious effects of Covid.
"In particular, I want to pay tribute to our excellent NHS Scotland health professionals who have done an exceptional job of treating and taking care of me.”
He added that his hospitalisation should remind people that Covid is still with us and “has the potential to do serious harm”, reemphasising the need to follow the Scottish Government’s coronavirus guidelines.
Ian Blackford (above), the SNP’s Westminster leader, said the thoughts of wishes of everyone in the party are with Dorans and his family.
“Our thanks too are with the excellent NHS Scotland staff who are doing such a brilliant job of looking after him,” he added.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
