A WOMAN found injured on a Croatian island with no memory of who she is or how she got there speaks fluent English with a Scottish accent, according to reports.
The lady, who police say appears to be around 60 years old, was found in a remote part of the island of Krk on September 12.
She was first spotted by fishermen, who said she was calling for help in English. She was then given medical assistance after Croatia's mountain rescue service (HGSS) hiked a mile from the nearest road to her location.
"Down on the shore, we found a woman with minor injuries, she also had a few scratches and was extremely dehydrated and emaciated. She could barely take a few sips of water.
"We placed her on a stretcher because she was unable to walk, and transported her to the hospital," HGSS said.
"She speaks English, but she does not remember her identity," police added. "She is currently located in hospital and is in stable condition."
The Croatian force also circulated a hand-out photograph of the woman, who they said is of medium build and around 165 centimeters tall, with blond, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes.
CNN reported that several people have responded to the police appeal, but the lady’s identity remains a mystery.
On Tuesday, in a Facebook post now shared more than 17,000 times, Croatian local Dajana Milinković shared photographs of the lady and appealed for help identifying her.
Milinković told the Daily Record: "The fisherman who alarmed the police said she was calling for help in English, but she has a Scottish accent.
"She does not remember her name, she did not have any documents or a mobile phone with her, the only thing that is known about her is that she communicates in English.”
UPDATE:
In another Facebook post, shared by Milinković on Wednesday, it is claimed that the woman has been identified.
Milinković says that the woman was named as Daniela Adamcova, from Slovakia, after the post was shared to a "Missing people Scotland" Facebook group.
She claims that "Adamcova" previously lived in the UK but moved to Ireland in 2015. Milinković shared photographs purporting to show the lady in 2014, writing: "Could it be her? Looks very very likely."
Croatian police have since confirmed the woman to be Daniela or Dana Adamcova, 57, from Slovakia.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
