Fever Pitch: The Rise of the Premier League (BBC2, 9pm)

THE penultimate episode of this series examines the origins of the celebrity footballer, and contrasts the fortunes of David Beckham with Keith Gillespie. Both were members of Manchester United’s iconic Class of 92, but while Beckham’s 60-yard wonder goal from the half-way line against Wimbledon made him a rock star, Gillespie was offloaded to title rivals Newcastle United, where he developed a gambling habit that went from bad to worse before he was “outed”.
