DOMINIC Raab has been demoted to Justice Secretary from the Foreign Office as the cabinet reshuffle continues.

Raab had been in the Foreign Secretary role since July 2019 and is a close ally of the Prime Minister, but his handling of the Afghanistan crisis was heavily criticised.

He previouslyrepeatedly refused to answer questions on the timing of his holiday to Crete during his appearance at the Foreign Select Committee on September 1.

And now, Raab has been confirmed as the first major player to move into a new role, but was given additional titles as a means of softening the blow.

Downing Street confirmed Raab’s demotion on Wednesday afternoon.

A statement from No 10 said: “The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP as Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor, and Secretary of State for Justice."

Just under a month ago Raab rejected calls to quit as Foreign Secretary after opposition leaders demanded he be sacked for failing to make a call to help translators flee Afghanistan.

It then emerged that the Prime Minister had told Raab to stay on holiday despite the unfolding crisis in Afghanistan.
