NICOLA Sturgeon is set to make a coronavirus announcement in the Scottish Parliament.
The First Minister will deliver an update to MSPs amid concerns about soaring cases across Scotland.
This is everything you need to know.
What’s the current situation?
Daily Covid-19 infections in Scotland have hit record highs over the past week.
Yesterday (Tuesday), the number of cases in Scotland rose by more than 2000 in 24 hours, while a further seven deaths were registered among coronavirus patients.
A total of 6029 cases were recorded, up from 3893 on Monday.
The figures remain below the record high of 7113 on Sunday, but numbers of patients in hospital have continued to rise.
The spike in cases has coincided with Covid scares for senior government ministers.
Finance Secretary Kate Forbes announced she is self-isolating for 10 days after a family member tested positive.
And on Monday, Sturgeon said she would no longer self-isolate having tested negative, after being told on Sunday she was a close contact of an infected person.
Under the current rules in Scotland, close contacts and children are able to end isolation if they are symptomless, have returned a negative PCR test and if they have been double-vaccinated for at least a fortnight.
But anyone who does not meet those criteria must isolate for 10 days from the point an infected person developed symptoms, regardless if they have symptoms themselves or test negative.
When is the update?
The First Minister will deliver her coronavirus update today (Wednesday) at around 2.50pm.
It follows a question and answer session on Scotland’s Covid recovery.
My Covid statement to @ScotParl will be around 2.50pm - please tune in if you can. https://t.co/pDCzV1cUEo

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
