KATE Forbes is self-isolating after a family member tested positive for Covid-19.

The Finance and Economy Secretary will have to quarantine for 10 days as she had only recently had her second vaccine, which takes around two weeks to become fully effective.

The SNP minister insists she will nevertheless honour parliamentary commitments as Holyrood returns from recess.

She announced on Monday evening: “Late this afternoon, a family member tested positive. As a close contact, I will now self-isolate for the full period as I am not fully vaccinated (it’s been less than a fortnight since my second vaccine).

“I will still give evidence at two committees tomorrow and respond to the debate on the McVitie’s closure at Tollcross, amongst many other commitments this week and next, albeit virtually.”

Forbes is the second senior government minister in a matter of days to be identified as a close contact to someone who tested positive.

Nicola Sturgeon was forced to self-isolate for 24 hours until receiving the all clear in the form of a negative test.

The First Minister was able to leave quarantine because it had been several weeks since she had her second jag.
