ONE of the most impressive dining rooms in Scotland's biggest city will not be reopening, it has emerged.

Hutchesons City Grill was based in a landmark hidden in plain sight, which had been transformed into a restaurant over three levels.

The National:

The building is category A-listed and had fallen into disrepair, but underwent a £1.4 million refurbishment in 2014.

James Rusk told the Glasgow Times the restaurant has closed, adding that he hopes that the historic hall continues to be looked after.

The building was designed to be a hospital for the elderly but was never used for that purpose. Instead it served as a library, bank, school and shops over the years.

Hutchesons City Grill was also used as a shooting location for Oscar-nominated film The Wife (2017), starring Glenn Close.

Rusk & Rusk have reopened The Spanish Butcher - their Bar El Sabio will have a series of cocktails inspired by Spanish ferias and artists - and The Butchershop Grill remains a popular place to have a burger with a view of Kelvingrove Museum.
