SCOTTISH DJ George Bowie was mistakenly accused of shoplifting pants from a high street shop while on holiday, the star DJ has claimed.

Taking to Twitter to express his outrage, the man behind GBX and host of the Clyde1 breakfast show, said that staff at the Zara shop in Brighton forgot to take the security tag off boxer shorts he had bought which made staff suspicious he had stolen the briefs.

He said: “Bought a pair of boxer shorts out of Zara in Brighton and they left the tag on them.

“So I took them back with the receipt and now they're away to check the CCTV. Why does everyone in England think if you're Scottish you’re a criminal?”

While he does not think staff "technically" accused him of stealing, the DJ added in a statement, he claims they did treat him with a level of distrust.

He joked: "The embarrassing thing is everyone now knows where I buy my pants. I used to get them in Asda but everyone thought my Mum had sewn my name on the front. I tried to tell them George was the designer but no one believed me."

George added: “They just came back to confirm I did buy them. No apology for their incompetence or the fact I took an hour out my day to walk back in but at least it turns out I didn't scam them for seven quid. What a relief.”

Zara was approached for comment.
