DAVID Pratt, Kevin McKenna and Lesley Riddoch will join our editor tonight for a discussion on independence – and we want to make sure you know how to tune in.
Callum Baird will host the trio of National columnists as our roadshows make a return in virtual form.
The discussion on “What now for independence?” will kick off at 7.30pm tonight.
It will be streaming live on our YouTube, Twitter account (@scotnational), Facebook (@thenationalnewspaperscotland) and there will be an article near the top of our website with the video embedded.
By visiting any of those four options, you’ll be able to tune in tonight – for what is sure to be some fantastic debate on the next steps for independence.
We’ve also been taking questions from readers to ask our guests, which you can send in by emailing letters@thenational.scot with subject “roadshow” or by emailing stewart.ward@thenational.scot – and that latter email is also available to anyone who after 7.30pm wants to watch but is struggling to find a link.
National editor Callum said: “It’s great to be able to kick off our roadshow events – though we’re excited for the day they can be in-person once again.
“We’ve already had some fantastic questions in from readers to ask to David, Kevin and Lesley, so it’s going to be an interesting night.
“We want to keep up the momentum for Yes even without a starting gun on indyref2 having being fired, and virtual events like these should be a top way to connect with our readers on that front too.
“Please come along, if you’re able, and let’s get some debate going!”
You’ll be able to find out all the information you need on what events we have upcoming in this paper – and with a regular slot at the top-right of our first Letters spread.
If you’re unable to make the big night, a recording of the event will be available on our YouTube afterwards.
We’ll also have some key highlights on our fast-growing and popular @scotnational TikTok account.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
