The National:

THE First Minister had to recover a pair of blue heels from a young “shoe thief” during a visit to a nursery this morning.

Nicola Sturgeon took a trip to Fallin Nursery near Stirling as her government delivered its committment to doubling state-funded early years education to 1140 hours per annum.

During the visit Sturgeon was photographed laughing with youngsters and staff at the nursery, and toasting marshmallows with the children. At one point children lined up along a fence asking for the First Minister to write a note to them.

Later, Alison McCallum of STV shared a photograph of Sturgeon stood bare-foot on the Astroturf in the nursery garden, watching as one of the kids ran off with her shoes.

The girl kneeled on the ground with her hands in the high-heels as the First Minister laughed behind her.

“I can report that the shoes were safely recovered,” Sturgeon  said after the visit.

“She practicing to be the next FM,” joked one follower. “Claim to fame. Bypassed all the security and stole FM shoes,” added Stephen Mackay.

Meanwhile, David Fleming noted the goalposts behind the FM and suggested her football career might not be too promising.

After her visit, Sturgeon appeared to be in good spirits despite the attempted theft.

"Thanks to staff and children at the wonderful Fallin Nursery for a great visit this morning," she wrote, adding that the new early learning policy was "giving children best start in life and saving families around £4900 a year".
