SCOTLAND has recorded 799 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the latest Government figures show.
The data also revealed one more death of someone who tested positive for Covid-19.
It brings the death toll under the daily measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 7943.
The 799 virus cases represent 6.5% of the 13,807 tests that reported results within the past 24 hours, up from 5.4% the previous day
This is above the 5% test positivity threshold which the World Health Organisation says indicates that the virus is under control.
A total of 407 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, down 15, with 60 patients in intensive care, a decrease of two.
The total number of people in Scotland who have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine is now 4,012,496 while 3,214,801 people have also received a second dose.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
