LAST-MINUTE preparations are under way for today’s All Under One Banner static rally in Dundee with Independence Live announcing that they will be broadcasting the event starting at 1pm today.
To watch you simply locate Independence Live’s YouTube channel via the link https://youtu.be/w1yGV1edxNM and there will also be the facility to chat with other Yes supporters.
AUOB will release the names of the speakers and musical entertainers via their social media outlets this morning, and there’s a stewards’ meeting at the venue, City Square outside the Caird Hall at 12.30pm.
This is possibly the final static rally AUOB will hold during the coronavirus pandemic, and social distancing and other regulations will be observed.
One of AUOB’s most successful events took place in Dundee in August 2018, when upwards of 16,000 people marched through the city to a rally in Magdalen Park. The numbers on Saturday will be nowhere near that mark, but an AUOB spokesperson said they had already been told by “a few hundred people” that they would be attending.
AUOB said: “Please do not attend if you feel unwell, observe distancing, wear face coverings and have good hand hygiene. This is the fifth static-rally that we will have held with on every occasion being responsibly organised and participated in, each having zero impact on Covid rates.”
AUOB announced that they will recommence marching for independence when Scotland no longer has Covid-19 restrictions.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
