A HEALTH board has warned members of the public not to come to Accident and Emergency unless they are in a “life-threatening” situation due to departments being “particularly busy”.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde informed residents of the news on social media, advising that the A&E departments at the Royal Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital and Inverclyde Royal Hospital were among the worst affected.

Members of the public have been reminded that they should speak to a GP or NHS24 on 111 unless the situation is potentially life-threatening. The health board asked social media users to share the message far and wide.

The move comes after nearby NHS Lanarkshire cancelled planned surgeries at its acute hospitals amid a rise in number of staff self-isolating, a “massive” rise in A&E attendance and increase in Covid-19 patients.

The hospital said it would be prioritising urgent care for vulnerable people due to the “sustained pressure” on services.
