WHEN he was a television celebrity known as The Donald, former president Trump could always twist and turn his way out of a tricky situation. He was, after all, the self-proclaimed master of the deal.

While in the White House the 45th president of the USA also showed a remarkable ability to deflect the copious flak that came his way.

Since he so unpleasantly demitted office in January, however, troubles just keep piling up for Trump, and the latest moves in the New York State’s prosecution of his eponymous Organization could be something that not even he can wriggle out of. It’s just a few weeks since Trump’s tax fraud charges were made against Trump’s close friend and ally Allen Weisselberg and the Trump Organisation itself.

According to the investigative website The Daily Beast, Weisselberg’s former daughter-in-law Jennifer has decided to co-operate with Manhattan investigators who are looking into the Trump Organisation.

The main allegations against chief financial officer Weisselberg are that he and the Trump company were running a tax-dodging scheme. But yesterday was the first time that the press in the USA reported allegations directly involving Trump, who was head of the organisation when the alleged offences were committed. According to reports in the USA, Jennifer Weisselberg alleged to prosecutors that Donald Trump offered to cover her children’s private school fees instead of giving her then-husband Barry a raise. The payments were never registered.

Jennifer Weisselberg made the claims in a Zoom interview with investigators on June 25, according to The Daily Beast, and if true it could directly implicate Trump in the ongoing tax fraud case.

Vanity Fair magazine reported: “Is Donald Trump actually going to be held accountable for running a company accused of, among other things, conspiracy, grand larceny, and multiple counts of tax fraud and falsifying records?

“On the one hand, he never has, so why would anyone expect it to happen now? On the other, thanks to the work of Manhattan prosecutors and helpful witnesses, he appears to be closer than ever to a situation in which he spends numerous years in prison!”

Lawyers for the Trump Organisation have not responded to the latest revelations but have previously denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

In a separate development, Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, has admitted that the campaign launch at Trump Tower was filled with paid actors.

Business Insider reported that Lewandoski admitted that he lied in 2016 when he said there were no paid actors involved.
