BY our count, Boris Johnson has made at least 13 humiliating U-turns over the course of the pandemic.
None have been so blatant, and so fast, as his most recent one however.
The Prime Minister and Chancellor took just two hours and 38 minutes to realise that they couldn’t get away with dodging quarantine rules.
Johnson and Rishi Sunak seemed surprised to be hit with a backlash after claiming to have been selected for a pilot programme which allows participants to take daily tests instead of isolating.

They quickly reconsidered their approach, with Boris Johnson now forced to spend England’s “Freedom Day” in his luxury countryside retreat at Chequers. Diddums.
Tory vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi claimed on the media rounds this morning that no-one was being taken “for fools” during the debacle.
National readers, however, disagree.
We asked you to sum up what you thought of Johnson’s government after the latest screeching U-turn. It does not make good reading for Downing Street.

Others showcased their wit.
Elaine Cardno posted: “Never thought I'd say this but bring back Theresa May.”
Fraser Benson added: “And we thought Thatcher’s government was bad…”
Cameron James was impressed with the responses.
He wrote: “A lot of these comments are totally accurate but would still get you thrown out of the House of Commons by the Speaker … that happens when you speak truth to power.”
The UK Government is fooling no-one.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
